The Nutrition Facts Label
We may not like to admit it but the Nutrition Facts label plays a huge role in providing information for the food we eat. Whether we use them religiously or as a topic of conversation ( 3 cookies is one serving of oreos SERIOUSLY?) we can all agree on one thing-that it helps us know a lot more about the food we eat and its nutrition.
Nutrition facts labels are important in my life as a Type One diabetic. I need to know the serving sizes of items so that I can be able to count carbohydrates correctly, so that my insulin dosing is appropriate and my blood sugars are kept in a healthy range.
In this series we’ll be learning all the things there are to know about the nutrition facts label. We’ll be diving into each category and finding ways to apply it to your life. For me, looking at the carbohydrate amounts helps me keep my blood sugar levels balanced. You might not be watching carbs, but you might be watching sodium, or your fat intake, or trying to count calories. Regardless of your “why”, this series well help you find that balance and make you label reading EXPERTS!
Before I go, I have attached a photo of the New Nutrition Facts label! EatRight or the academy of nutrition and dietetics, has sent educational material so that us Registered Dietitians can spread the word! They’ve switched a couple of things like making the serving size amounts that people are ACTUALLY eating and including things like added sugars (which can increase risk of heart disease and if eaten in excess potentially increase chances for dementia)
As usual, I am your personal tour guide through this wonderful world of nutrition! So you always can reach out to me or keep up with what I’m doing in my world on BalancedWithBridgetWood on Instagram. Happy Label Reading! <3 BW
